Our goal is to stop texting while driving (and other cell phone distracted driving) by using rewards as opposed to punishments. Punishing people had its change but, people continued to injure, harm, and kill themselves and others anyway despite these punishments.
Q: Will the Drive Alive App stop me from making calls or sending text messages in an emergency? (Or just in case I want to?)
A: Because the Drive Alive App is a monitoring system instead of a blocking system it will not. At any point you can turn the app off no matter how fast you are detected as moving and use any and all phone functions at any time. However if you do this you will lose eligibility for certain rewards. All other apps aimed to stop texting while driving are blocking systems that use something along the lines of “If the user is moving over 10mph then the text/call functions become disabled. Or the phone enters “no call mode”. Drive Alive App is different in a good way. It never blocks you ever.
Q: What happens if a user decides to run the app as a passenger in a car and becomes eligible for rewards.
A: More power to them! Multiple studies have shown that passengers using their phones are very distracting as well. The few that have the willpower not to use their phones as a passenger should be rewarded as it also helps to keep our roadways safe in its own way.
Q: What smartphone formats will the Drive Alive App be available on?
A: The Drive Alive App will be available on iPhone, Android, and Blackberry starting with Android.
Q: Will Drive Alive have any type of parental/employer control features?
A: There will be no built in feature for this, however a parent or employer could easily request their child’s/employee’s ID number that corresponds with the website database. At that point the parent or employer could get as creative as they want with enforcing their own rules and regulations. For example a parent could say “I’m not paying for your cell phone bill next month unless you show up a lot in the database. I will be checking”.
